Adams leads Stan State as Warriors dominate Georgia College

TURLOCK — Sierra Adams kept pounding the ball away as the senior led the Warriors to a dominant win over Georgia College Friday night to cap-off day two of the NorCal Volleyball Classic at Fitzpatrick Arena.

Adams (Silverdale, Wash./Maryland Eastern Shore) amassed a career-high 18 kills as Stanislaus State improved to 2-0 after the impressive 25-20, 25-16, 25-15 win over a good Bobcats team from the Peach Belt Conference (0-2).

Many other Warriors had solid nights, too, with Rachel Klopfer (Las Vegas/Green Valley HS) recording 10 kills with 13 digs and Alana Wilson-Reid (San Diego/Grossmont College) chipping in nine kills. Chelsey Berry (Tracy/Tracy HS) had 13 digs and Breanna Cannon (Phoenix/Pinnacle HS) dished 38 assists in the quick three-set match.

Adams wowed the crowd with her hard-hitting attacks with another great offensive night. The senior hit .382 with 18 kills (on 34 attempts and five errors) with most of her blasts with force into the hardwood floor. In two matches thus far, she has tallied 33 kills for a 5.50 kills per set average. Last season, her first as a Warrior after transferring from Maryland Eastern Shore, her best match was a 14-kill total. She's already surpassed that twice in 2018.

Friday night, Stan State hit .262 as a team while holding Georgia College to -.053 hitting. Five different Bobcats had three kills apiece as the team-high.

Georgia College went 24-8 in 2017 and was picked to finish second this season in the Peach Belt in the preseason poll.

The Warriors will play twice on Saturday as the eight-team tournament continues with the first match at 8:30 a.m. Stan State hosts Notre Dame de Namur at 12:30 p.m. and plays Academy of Art at 7 p.m. in the event finale.
