TURLOCK — With two more impressive victories on home court on Saturday, the 2018 version of the Stanislaus State volleyball team is off to a perfect 4-0 start as the Warriors won twice on the final day of the NorCal Volleyball Classic at Fitzpatrick Arena.
Stan State beat Notre Dame de Namur in straight sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-20, in the afternoon before taking care of Academy of Art, 25-12, 25-14, 25-16, with total team-effort in the event's finale. The Warriors has already surpassed last season's win-total of three with the unblemished record, winning all matches in straight sets.
Sierra Adams (Silverdale, Wash./Maryland Eastern Shore) again led the way offensively against NDNU with 14 kills, followed by
Rachel Klopfer's 11 kills. Then in the nightcap, as Stan State was handling Art U with ease, head coach
Mallori Gibson-Rossi went deep into the roster depth chart to spread court time. In the end, against Art U, four Warriors had five or more kills with three —
Alana Wilson-Reid (San Diego/Grossmont College), Adams, and
Jordon Wilson (Rialto/Mt. San Antonio College) — each with six spikes.
As a team, the Warriors offense was on fire, posting attacking percentages of .340 (vs. NDNU) and .414 (against Academy of Art). In the match against Art U, Stan State also had eight total blocks and 14 service aces.
Ramey Gardner (Gresham, Ore./Texas A&M International) served five consecutive aces in set three to give Stanislaus an 8-0 lead.
Chelsey Berry (Tracy/Tracy HS) also added three aces in the contest.
Adams was the best attacker, capping her weekend with 20 more kills on Saturday on 33 attempts and just two errors. In four matches, she tallied 53 kills with a 4.82 kills per set mark and a .416 attacking percentage.
For the weekend, in four matches, the Warriors hit an prolific .307 on the attack with 179 kills (14.9 kills per set) and 180 digs (15.0 digs per set). Berry led the defensively effort with 50 digs in four matches for a 4.17 digs per set average.
Stanislaus State will take its 4-0 record to Oakland next weekend at the D2 West Region Showcase. The Warriors will face Hawaii Pacific, Holy Names, Western Oregon and Cal Poly Pomona on Friday and Saturday.
