Stan State women open CCAA with victory under Friday night lights

TURLOCK — In an injury stoppage time filled match, the Stanislaus State women's soccer team held on to beat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 1-0, to begin the CCAA season with a win under the lights on Friday night.

Autumn Halvorsen's goal in the 19th minute proved to be the only score as the Warriors win another match at Warrior Stadium. Stan State is now 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in league play. The Warriors are unbeaten in their last 13 contests here and are 11-0-2 since Oct. 21, 2016.

Halvorsen's goal came at 18:41. After receiving a touch from Ilena Rivera on the far side of the field, Halvorsen sent a blast from 25 yards out with a Toros defender deflecting the shot. The momentum of the shot carried the ball into the right-side of the goal past a diving Ruth-Maria Soto, the CSUDH goalie.

That goal stood-up the rest of the way despite the Warriors out-shooting the Toros, 13-6 in the second half.

Stan State starting goalkeeper Haley Crook had to exit the match in the 49th minute after colliding with a Toro. Alyssa Herrman played the rest of the second half and picked up three saves.

The contest went on for more than two hours, with a 58-minute second half.

The Warriors will take on Cal State L.A. on Sunday in a 11:30 a.m. contest. That match will be televised nationally on Eleven Sports Network USA by BAOSN.TV.
