Late PK the difference as Otters defeats Stanislaus State

SEASIDE — A late penalty kick was the final difference as host Cal State Monterey Bay defeated Stanislaus State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.

Walmer Martinez converted on the penalty kick try in the 74th minute to propel the Otters (2-5-0, 1-3-0) to their first CCAA win of the season while the Warriors (3-5-0, 0-4-0 CCAA) are still looking for their first.

Joseph Mayorca scored his third goal of the season to even the score in the 73rd minute when he drilled a shot into the left corner. His goal was assisted by Fermin Chaidez.

That score had answered CSUMB's first goal, at 61:57, by Ardian Ortiz.

Only a total of 12 shots were credited in the match with CSUMB with a 8-4 advantage. All four shots by Stan State came in the second half.

Edgar Benitez scored in goal for the Warriors and he had four saves.

The Warriors will hit the road again next weekend with matches at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
