HAYWARD — Despite another tremendous night by
Sierra Adams and a great performance by
Ramey Gardner, the Stanislaus State women's volleyball team could not hold on to a two-sets-to-none lead in falling to the host Cal State East Bay Pioneers Tuesday night.
Playing against the Pioneers for the second time in five days, the Warriors ended a three-match winning streak with the 14-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 12-15 loss. The defeat created a log-jam in the CCAA North standings as Stan State falls to 10-5 overall and 3-4 for a five-way tie for second in the division. Sonoma State is in first at 3-3.
Sierra Adams spiked 21 kills for a career-high and Gardner posted career highs 18 kills and 22 digs to lead the Warriors.
Breanna Cannon had another solid night with 51 assists, 14 digs and two block-assists. She has now accumulated 153 assists in the last three matches. Her 447 total surpasses her 2017 season total of 408.
Stanislaus came out on fire hitting on all cylinders in the first set. The Warriors hit .417 for the easy set-one win. A 7-1 run, including six straight points helped their cause. The Pioneers put-up more of a fight in the second set and lead 21-22 until the Warriors scored four straight points to end the game.
After a short intermission, the momentum swung the other way as CSUEB rolled off two set wins to force the decisive fifth.
CSUEB (7-8, 3-4 CCAA) hit .364 in the fifth and had three blocks to pull off the win.
