TURLOCK — Facing Cal Poly Pomona for the second time in a week, the Stanislaus State Warriors were out for a better result. For a while, it went well for the home team before the visiting Broncos won in four sets, 16-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20.
The Warriors again played very well in the opening set before losing their second straight conference match in as many nights. Stan State is now 7-3 overall and 0-2 in CCAA play.
Sierra Adams (Silverdale, Wash./Maryland Eastern Shore) had 14 kills and
Ramey Gardner (Gresham, Ore./Texas A&M International) spiked 12 to lead the Warriors attack.
Rachel Klopfer (Las Vegas/Green Valley HS) had 11 kills.
However, the Warriors' blocking game didn't help Saturday night as they finished with five total blocks. Friday night, against No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino, Stan State had 17 blocks.
Breanna Cannon (Phoenix/Pinnacle HS) handled the setting for most of the night to finish with 31 assists. She also had 12 digs.
Yisel Perez (Turlock/Pitman HS) had 13 digs and
Mya Marshall (Temecula/Great Oaks HS), the night's libero, dug 12.
Stan State opened the first set on fire and hit .400 as a team with 14 kills on 30 attempts. At 20-16, the Warriors scored the final five points to post the win.
These two teams met last Saturday in Oakland during the D2 West Region Showcase with Cal Poly Pomona winning in straight sets.
Saturday night, the Broncos (9-1, 2-0 CCAA) were led by Jenna Goldsberry and Andrea Bosnic each with 18 kills.
Chico State is the Warriors' next opponent, in a mid-week contest on Wednesday in Chico. Chico State also lost to the same two opponents as the Warriors this weekend.
