Warriors Kept Up with No. 6 Tritons in Loss on Saturday

TURLOCK –The Warriors kept up with the Tritons of UC San Diego before losing to them 65-78 Saturday night. The women kept up their energy while they faced the No. 6 Tritons not letting them get too far ahead during Saturday night's game.
 
The Tritons remain undefeated at 14-0 overall and 10-0 in the CCAA. The Warriors become 3-11 overall and 2-8 in conference.
 
The Warriors were the clear underdogs in the game facing a No. 6 nationally ranked team but with strong full-court press defense, Stan State competed. They shot 69.6 percent for free throws while they struggled from the field at 36.2 percent. The Tritons also struggled from the field shooting just 37.1 percent.
 
After trailing by as many as 16 points, Stan State got within three late in the third quarter on a Brittney Livingston three-pointer. A 16-4 UCSD run into the fourth quarter led to the Tritons win.
 
Kyanna Davis exploded on offense and had yet another season high with 24 points. Livingston finished with 10 points to go with six rebounds. Angelica Baylon pull seven boards with six assists.
 
The Stan State women were able to score 15 points off of turnovers and scored 24 points in the paint. Stan State only gave up five points to UC San Diego on turnovers.
 
Joleen Yang led the offense for Tritons and scored 21 points. Mikayla Williams scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds. Haleigh Hatfield led for rebounds with 14.

UC San Diego dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Warriors 45-31 including 18 on offensive, which led to 17 second-chance points.
  
Stan State will travel to face San Francisco State next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
