TURLOCK — It took extra time to do it, but in the end the Stanislaus State Warriors pulled off a 93-85 overtime win over Cal State Monterey Bay Thursday night at Fitzpatrick Arena.
Ty Davis and
Rolaun Dunham both had double-doubles and
Andy Cleaves scored 20 again as the Warriors improved to 8-9 overall and 5-8 in the CCAA. Stan State has won four of last six games.
Davis led the team with 21 points — 14 in the second half and overtime — while dishing another 11 assists for his double-double night. Dunham had 16 points (13 after halftiime) with 13 rebounds for his big night. Cleaves made a free throw late in overtime to get to 20 points — his fifth 20-plus point game in the last seven games.
The 93-point outing is the Warriors' biggest total this season and the fifth most points scored during all CCAA game in 2018-19.
The Warriors have now won four straight against the Otters including both meetings this year.
Charlie Tooley had six three-pointers for 23 points to lead Cal State Monterey Bay, which didn't look like a team that just snapped a 32-game losing streak last week. The Otters are now 1-17 and 1-12 in league play.
CSUMB led by four points with 3:07 left in regulation and had a one-point lead with one minute to go. Davis tied the game with a free throw ahead of a big three-pointer by
Mat Bradshaw with 44 seconds left. However, the Otters sent the game into overtime on a trey by Jared Williams.
The Warriors took control in OT. Four made free throws sandwiched by a pair of
Joseph Alvarez buckets gave Stan State a six-point lead. Dunham extended that lead with a score that followed a steal. Then, Cleaves slammed home the winner after picking Williams' pocket at mid-court with 37 seconds remaining.
Monterey Bay was poised to get its second win in three games after a long losing streak. The Otters came out nailing three-pointers and ended up with 12 in the game. However, mistakes caused them as the Warriors scored 34 points off 22 CSUMB turnovers.
Second place Cal State East Bay (15-3, 10-2 CCAA) comes to town on Saturday with the men's game scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game.
