HAYWARD –The Warriors faced off against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers, Thursday, January 3, 2019, and saw defeat in their first game of the new year. The Warriors fell to the Pioneers 48-63 after a tough battle.
The Warriors are now 2-9 overall and 1-6 in conference. Cal State East Bay is 7-7 overall and 4-4 overall.
Both teams were head to head until the very end of the game when East Bay gained speed and took the lead by 11 with 1:05 left in the fourth. Stan State was in the lead going into halftime 15-11. Stan State gave up 14 points off turnovers and only scored four off East Bay. The Warriors and Pioneers were evenly matched, each scoring 22 points in the paint.
Kyanna Davis and
Brittney Livingston both scored double-digits, Davis with 15 and Livingston with 10.
Caitlin Keding was the leading rebounder with seven, which was also her season high.
The Warriors went 8-11 for free-throws; not missing a single free-throw in the second half. The women had a strong start leading by 7 at 5:43 in the second. By the last seconds of the game, East Bay was leading by 15 and Stan State struggled to catch up.
The Pioneers had three players score double digits, Madison Schiller scored 17, Regina Sankey and Savannah McGill both scored ten. Savannah McGill dominated in defense with 13 rebounds as well.
The women will take on Cal State Monterey Bay, Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 1 p.m. in Seaside.
