Cleaves nets 26 as Warriors shoot past winless Otters

SEASIDE - Andy Cleaves scored a season-high 26 points as he led the Stanislaus State men's basketball team over Cal State Monterey Bay, 82-70, Saturday afternoon at the Kelp Bed.

The Warriors earned the much-need victory to snap a four-game losing streak while handing CSUMB its 29th straight loss. Stan State is now 5-7 overall and 2-6 in CCAA play. Stan State's last win was on Dec. 1 over 7th ranked Cal Poly Pomona.

Cal State Monterey Bay is still looking for its first win this season and dropped to 0-13 overall (0-8 CCAA). The Otters came into the season with a 16-game losing streak to end the 2016-17 season.

Cleaves posted back-to-back 20-point games with the 26 point total by shooting 10 of 17 while hitting four of nine three-pointers. He had 21 points in Thursday's loss at Cal State East Bay.

Ty Davis added 12 points with seven rebounds and five assists and Rolund Dunham chipped in 12 points. Cleaves also had seven rebounds.

Stan State led 37-25 at halftime and led by as many as 24 points mid-way through the second half, at 62-38, on a Jacob Danhoff layup. The Warriors had one of their best shooting nights of the year, hitting 50 percent of their shots and were 12 of 27 from the three-point arch - both season highs.

The Warriors will host a pair of CCAA games next week versus Cal State San Marcos (Thursday) and UC San Diego (Saturday).
