Warriors show off competitiveness on ESPN3 before dropping four-set match at UCSD

LA JOLLA — The CCAA South Division is a pretty strong division for women's volleyball and the Warriors experienced that this week as Stanislaus State dropped a four-set match at UC San Diego Saturday night.

In front of a homecoming crowd of more than 800, with the match on ESPN3, the host Tritons were challenged by the surging Warriors before UCSD prevailed.

The Warriors once again battled in a tough environment in the RIMAC Arena before dipping their records to 11-6, 6-4 in the CCAA. UC San Diego improved to 13-6, 7-4 CCAA.

Top Warrior Performers
Sierra Adams led the team with 14 kill with an impressive .407 attacking percentage (14-3-27). It was her four consecutive 10-kills match and her fourth straight match where she hit .367 or better.

Key Moments in the Match
• The Warriors held several leads in the second set until UC San Diego went on a 6-0 run for a 22-13 lead.
• A see-saw battle ensued in the third set, but the Warriors used a 10-2 run to build a 14-10 lead. UCSD did manage to make it a tight set with several tied scores late until kills by Kiara Erving and Sierra Adams made it 26-24, advantage Stan State.
• The Tritons took control of the fourth set early, going out on a 10-2 lead and extended it to 14-4. The Warriors were able to gain momentum.

Quote from Coach Mallori Gibson-Rossi
"Unfortunately, we struggled to find a rhythm in our team offense. Sierra and Macky were able to score but we needed a couple more offensive threats to balance it out. Defensively, we showed a lot of heart and resiliency which was led by Mya. She brought a lot of energy and passion to the court and it made a big impact on the team."
