Warriors improve to program-best 10-4 after 5-set thriller over SSU

TURLOCK — The Stanislaus State volleyball team established a new program best Saturday night — and it came during a match against one of the best teams in the CCAA.

In a battle for CCAA North supremacy, Stan State out-lasted Sonoma State, in five thrilling sets for the 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-11.

This means Stan State IS now one of those best teams in the CCAA as they now share the top spot with Chico State in the standings. Sonoma State had entered the night with 12-3, 4-1 records after four-match winning streak.

Program's Best Start
The Warriors are off to the program's best start at 10-4. The 2015 team started out 9-4 but didn't get its 10th win until match No. 15. That team then went 12-5.

Quote from head coach Mallori Gibson-Rossi
"I am extremely proud of the heart we showed. Sonoma is a great team and we battled with them tonight. Everyone took accountability and made changes to help us get this win. The maturity and leadership on the court has improved a lot. It's allowed us to compete under pressure situations and has given us the ability to make adjustments mid-match."

Up Next
It will be a light week next week as the Warriors play just once — on the road, at Cal State Monterey Bay (5-10, 1-7 CCAA) on Friday at 5 p.m.
