CHICO — The Stanislaus State men's basketball team is 4-0 for the first time since 2013 as the Warriors beat Chico State 74-66 to open the CCAA season Thursday night.
 
The 4-0 start is also the program's best start against four Division II programs.
 
Top Warriors of the Night
• Vida Faniel scored 17 points to lead the Warriors. He was 4 of 13 but made three three-pointers and converted on six of seven free throws. Faniel also had six rebounds.
• Darius Scott netted 16 points on 6 of 11 shooting. He also had six rebounds.
• Ty Davis scored eight to go with his six assists and two steals.
• Xavier Francois plled six rebounds and had three assists.
 
About that 4-0 start
• The 2013 team started 5-0, with one of those wins against UC Merced.
• The 2009-10 team also started 4-0, with wins over Cal Maritime, American Sports, Bethany and Menlo College
• The 2001-01 team started 4-0 with wins over Nothwest Nazarene, Bethany, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State L.A.
• This year's team's 4-0 start are all against Division II programs — Notre Dame de Namur, Holy Names, Seattle Pacific, and Chico State.
 
Key Moments of the Game
• The Warriors were up 11 points after a pair of Xavier Francois free throws with 6:22 to play.
• Back to Back 3-pointers from Chico State's Malik Duff got the Wildcats within six points, 70-64, with 2:08 left. Stan State made four three throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the win.
