Cal State Dominguez Hills out paces Warriors in fast, offensive game

TURLOCK — Four players were in double-digits in scoring but the Stanislaus State men's basketball team couldn't fend off the offensive team of Cal State Dominguez Hills as the visiting Toros defeated the Warriors 82-75 Saturday night.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 52.7 percent from the field and made 12 three-pointers en route to the win to up its record to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA.

The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season to dip to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
 
Top Warrior Performers
Vida Faniel had his second consecutive 17-point game, this time on 6 of 12 shooting, including five three-pointers. He also scored 17 points on Thursday in Chico and has now scored in double digits in all five games this season.
Xavier Francois scored 16 with eight rebounds.
Ty Davis dished nine assists with 13 points.
Luis Salgado had 11 points with two steals and four rebounds.
 
Team Stats of the Night
• Cal State Dominguez Hills shot nearly 60 percent from the floor and was 8 for 18 from three-point land in the first half.
• The Toros then used the foul line in the second half, going 12 of 14, to stay ahead.
• Stan State shot just 33 percent in the first half (10-for-30), but trailed just 46-38 at intermission.
 
Key Parts of the Game
• The Warriors tied the game at 62-62 halfway into the second half on a Fred Lavender layup.
• A 9-2 CSUDH run put the Toros up 73-64 with a rally capped by a loud Andrew Whitsett open dunk.
• Stan State get back in within three after a pair of Lavender free throws at 3:56 remaining.
• But Wonder Smith nailed a three-pointer to turn the Warriors away. Smith finished with 28 points.
 
Up Next
The Warriors will participate in the San Francisco State Tournament, which starts the day after Thanksgiving. Stan State takes on Concordia Portland next Friday at 5:30 p.m. inside The Swamp.
