CHICO – The Warriors traveled to Chico on Thursday to take on the Wildcats in their first CCAA game of the season. Chico State was slightly ahead for the majority of the game until Stan State pulled ahead in the fourth quarter right at the start. The Warriors take home their first CCAA game of the season, 71-66.
The Warriors succeed to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the CCAA. The Wildcats are now 0-1 in the CCAA and 4-2 overall.
DAVIS AND TAYLOR GO FOR DOUBLE-DOUBLE
- At halftime, Kyanna Davis was leasing the team with eight points.
- Brittney Livingston was leading with six rebounds at the half. She led the team in rebounds with 12 total.
- Kyanna Davis and Kaleigh Taylor both went for the double-double and succeeded! Davis led with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor made 16 points and had ten rebounds.
- Caitlin Keding also scored in double with ten points.
- Angelica Baylon led with eight great assists.
WARRIORS COME BACK TO WIN
- At the half, the Warriors were only trailing by four at 23-27.
- At the beginning of the second quarter, Chico State pulled ahead by six but the Warriors didn't let that get them down as they went on a six-point run.
- Livingston scored a three coming right out of the half to be down by one, 26-27.
- Both teams were neck-and-neck almost the entire game.
- At the end of the third the Warriors trailed, 47-49, but as soon as the fourth opened the Warriors pulled ahead! Angelica Baylon scored a three and a free throw to pull ahead 51-49.
- The lead only changed twice from there as the Warriors continued to score until they had won the game.
- Stan State out bounded the Wilcats, 53-29.
- The Warriors shot 65.5 percent from the free throw line and 42.9 percent from the three-point line.
- Both teams gave each other a fight and also both led the game only by eight as their largest lead.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 13-28 against the Wildcats since they first played in January 1999.
- The last time the two teams met, the Warriors beat the Wildcats 77-73 in February 2019.
- Last season, the Warriors went 1-1 against the Wildcats.
- Chico State is expected to finish at No. 7 in the CCAA according to the preseason poll.
