Ortiz scores hat trick in 13 minutes; Warriors earn right to host first round game

TURLOCK – The Stanislaus State women's soccer team brought home yet another incredible win, behind Sadie Ortiz's hat-trick, as the Warriors blanked Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-0, Thursday night to clinch a home game during the first round of the CCAA Tournament.
 
The women are now 13-4-0 overall and 7-4-0 in the CCAA. Cal State Monterey Bay fall to 8-8-1 overall and 3-8-0 in the CCAA.
 
GOALS
  • Thirty seconds into the match, Summer England came for low left with a beautiful pass to allow Sadie Ortiz to knock it in the goal for the Warriors to lead early in the game.
  • Ortiz with her second goal in the 9th minute! Ortiz scored this goal assisted by England from high center with a long range shot to the top of the box.
  • Ortiz completed a hat trick early in the game when Ilena Rivera assisted her in the 13th minute for a goal inside the box. 
GOALKEEPER NOTES
  • Alyssa Herrman posted another clean sheet. In fact, she only saw one CSUMB shot that was off-frame.
  • This is Herrman's eighth shutout of the season.
WARRIORS CLINCHED!
  • The Warriors will host a first round match as the No. 4 seed, on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Their opponent, the No. 5 seed, is to be determined.
  • The winners of Tuesday's two first round matches will advance to the semifinals of the CCAA Championship tournament on Friday, Nov. 15 in La Jolla with the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 17.
  • The women are appearing in the postseason for the ninth time since 2005 and the first since 2016.
  • This is head coach Gabriel Bolton's eighth time taking his team into postseason play.
  • In 2016, the Warriors won in the first two rounds of the CCAA Championships against Cal State L.A. and Chico State but ended up falling short to UC San Diego in the title match, 2-3.

NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are 25-4-1 against the Otters since they first met in 2000.
  • The last time the two teams played in September 2018, the Warriors lost 0-1.
  • Ortiz scored the fastest goal in 34 seconds since Alexia Poon scored in 17 seconds on September 14, 2012.
  • The Warriors out-shot the Otters 21-1; 10-0 shots on goal.
