ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Warriors started their 2019-20 season on Friday, November 8, at the CWU West Region Crossover. This is a four-team tournament that takes place over two days. The tournament includes teams from GNAC, PacWest and the CCAA.
The Warriors played tough but couldn't keep up and fell to Central Washington 76-85. CWU is predicted to finish No. 1 in the GNAC preseason poll, saying this, the Warriors competed hard and did a great job.
After their first season game the Warriors are 0-1. Central Washington is 1-0.
LEADING PERFORMERS
- At the half, Kaleigh Taylor was leading the Warriors with a total of eight points.
- Brittney Livingston was already doing great in rebounds with a total of five at the half. Livingston completed the game with seven rebounds.
- Kaleigh Taylor already beat her season high in the game from 2018 when she scored 21 points against Humboldt State in February 2019. Taylor scored a total of 24 points on Friday evening.
- Kyanna Davis was also a leading scorer for the Warriors with 22 points.
- Angelica Baylon led with six assists.
WILDCATS GAIN EARLY LEAD
- The Wildcats gained an early lead in the first quarter when the Warriors found themselves trailing by ten.
- The Warriors had a tough time regaining momentum as they went into halftime trailing by 17 which ultimately led to their defeat.
- Stan State saw hope when they lowered the deficit to nine with six minutes left in the third but once again trailed 68-81 with 1:58 left in the entire game.
- The Warriors were able to pick themselves up and only trail by nine in the end against the predicted No. 1 team for the GNAC.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 2-4 against the Wildcats since they first met in November 1998.
- The last time the two teams played each other in November 2018, the Warriors lost 59-94.
- The Warriors scored 38 points in the paint and 27 points off turnovers.
