SAN BERNARDINO – The Warriors traveled to San Bernardino on Thursday in hopes of claiming their fourth CCAA win. The game started off slow but the Warriors picked up their momentum in the second half to keep the game close with the Coyotes. In the last five minutes of the game, the teams were battling back and forth until the Coyotes took the last-minute win over the Warriors, 82-79.
The Warriors are now 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the CCAA. The Gators are now 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA.
FANIEL SCORES BIG
- At half time, Darius Scott was leading the team with 14 points, at 3 for 4 in three-pointers.
- Vida Faniel was already in double digits going into halftime with 13 points as well as four rebounds.
- Faniel ended up scoring huge leading the team with 32 points and seven rebounds. This is not only a season high for Faniel but a career high as well.
- 32 points is the most a Warriors has scored this season.
- Scott scored 15 points and made six assists.
- Xavier Francois also scored double digits with 13 points.
- Ty Davis led the team with seven assists and three steals.
TEAM PERFORMANCE
- The Warriors went 24 for 56 from the field which was not too far from the Coyotes' 29 for 50.
- Stan State went 19 for 22 for free throws shooting at 86.4 percent.
- The team scored 22 points in the paint and 21 off turnovers.
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- The Warriors were down from the very start of the game as the Coyotes went on a six-point run. Despite the slow start, the Warriors picked up their energy towards the end of the first half to only be down, 36-41.
- The Warriors took the first points of the second half to tie up the game 41-41, and eventually take their first lead, 44-43.
- The fouls in the end of the game led to the Warriors downfall as they only fell by a mere three points, all free throws by the Coyotes.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 12-32 against the Coyotes since they first met in December 1998.
- The last time the two teams met the Warriors beat the Coyotes, 97-88 in February 2019.
