Warriors close 2019 with exciting one-point victory over Pioneers

HAYWARD – Stanislaus State took on Cal State East Bay Sunday and battled for the win, point for point. Both teams wanted to close out 2019 with this victory but the Warriors kept up their momentum to snag the win over the Pioneers by one point, 59-58.
 
The Warriors are now 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the CCAA. The Pioneers are now 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the CCAA.  
 
TOP WARRIORS OF THE GAME
  • After the first half, Xavier Francois was leading with 12 points and five rebounds. He led the team overall with 22 points and eight rebounds.
  • Ty Davis also scored double digits with 18 points. Davis led with three assists.
  • Vida Faniel, Darius Scott and Francois all went 2 for 2 in free throws.
TEAM PERFORMANCE
  • The Warriors shot 42.1 percent from the field going 24 for 57.
  • Stan State outshot Cal State East Bay from the free throw line shooting 69.2 percent while the Pioneers shot 62.5 percent.
  • The Warriors scored 15 points off turnovers and 42 points in the paint.
  • The Warriors were outbounded by nine but that didn't stop them from pulling out the win. 
EXCITING MOMENTS OF THE GAME
  • At the end of the first half the Warriors were holding onto their lead, 24-20.
  • The Warriors led the entire first half but were battling point for point with the Pioneers as they found the score tied five times.
  • The second half was even more of a fight as the Warriors lost the lead a few times and were down 40-38 with ten minutes left.
  • With five minutes left in the game, the Warriors were tied up 45-45.
  • The Warriors looked as if they had the game locked in leading 57-54 with 45 seconds left but both teams continued to keep the energy up until the very last seconds when East Bay was down by two with only four seconds left.
  • Ant Navarrete of East Bay scored a layup to make the score 59-58. 
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are 15-5 against the Pioneers since they first met in January 2010.
  • The last time the two teams met the Warriors lost in overtime, 62-69, on January 26, 2019. 
UP NEXT
 
The Warriors will travel to Humboldt State on January 4 to take on the Jacks at 7:30 p.m. for their first game of 2020.
