Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Five Warriors in double figures to lead Stan State over Lumberjacks

ARCATA — In a total team-effort, the Stanislaus State men's basketball team beat Humboldt State, in a tight barn-burner, 92-87, in Arcata Saturday night.

Five Warriors were in double digits in scoring as the Warriors won at Lumberjack Arena for just the third time in 16 tries.

Stanislaus State improved its records to 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Humboldt State, which lost at home for just the second time in seven games this season, dropped to 6-7, 2-6 CCAA.

The Five Double Figure Scorers
Brandon Thomas led the team in scoring for the first time this season with 19 points. He earned his points mostly from the three-point arc, hitting on 4 of 6.
Darius Scott also made four triples en route to a 18-point night. He had five rebounds.
Vida Faniel also had 18 points, on 6 of 12 shooting, with six rebounds.
Xavier Francois scored 16 for his fourth consecutive game with 13 or more points. He pulled a team-high eight rebounds, too.
Ty Davis scored 11 points, helped by seven free throws (on 11 attempts). He also had five assists and three steals.

Good Shooting Night
• The Warriors shot 55.1 percent from the field, the second best tally this season. Stan State shot 60.9 percent on Nov. 9 at Holy Names, but has not made better than 50 percent of shots since.
• The 48 percent from three-point distance was also a team's season-high. The Warriors had averaged 31.2 percent prior to Saturday.
• Stan State surpassed the 90-point mark for the first time this season. It was the first time since the Warriors scored 97 points at Cal State San Bernardino last Feb. 23, 2019 (W, 97-88).
• The Warriors are now 3-0 when they scored 80 or more points.

Close Game Until Late
• The Warriors led by eight points a couple of times in the first half, but the game was much closer in the second half.
• HSU had a brief one-point lead at 63-62, but the Warriors used an 8-0 run to regain the advantage.
• After the Lumberjacks got within two points (4:31 left on a Jackson Strong three-pointer), Stanislaus used a 15-5 run to build a 12-point lead with 1:12 left to play.

Up Next
Stanislaus State will play at home for the first time since Dec. 7 on Thursday, Jan. 9, when the Warriors host UC San Diego. The sixth-ranked Tritons are leading the CCAA standings right now with 13-1, 7-1 records.
