Women’s Basketball takes second CCAA loss in Hayward

 
HAYWARD – Stanislaus State traveled to Hayward on Sunday and fell to the Pioneers, 70-82. The Warriors had a tough time keeping up with the Pioneers and their fast scoring players. The women led once during the game after a 12-point run but were soon overcome in the fourth quarter.
 
The Warriors are now 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the CCAA. The Pioneers are now 10-3 overall and 6-1 in the CCAA.  
 
LEADING WARRIORS OF THE NIGHT
  • By halftime, Kaleigh Taylor was the leading scorer with nine points while Davis was leading with five rebounds.
  • Angelica Baylon led with 16 points while Taylor scored 14 and Caitlin Keding scored ten.
  • Davis led the Warriors with nine rebounds.
  • Baylon also led with four assists.
  • Brittney Livingston made four steals.
TEAM PERFORMANCE
  • The Warriors went 22 for 34 from the free throw line and shot 34.9 percent from the field.
  • The Pioneers and the Warriors were close in shooting as the Warriors went 22 for 63 and the Pioneers went 25 for 56.
  • Stan State scored 19 points off turnovers and scored 32 points in the paint.
KEY POINTS OF THE GAME
  • The Pioneers took off right at the start of the game and were up by ten, 28-38, going into halftime.
  • At the open of the second half, the Warriors went on a 12-point run to take the lead, 40-38. Six of the 12 points were scored by Angelica Baylon.
  • The Warriors had a hard time keeping up with the Pioneers' shooting as they eventually found themselves down by 15. 
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are 5-15 against the Pioneers since they first met in January 2010.
  • The last time the two teams met the Warriors were defeated by the Pioneers, 44-49, in January 2019.  
  • Cal State East Bay is currently second in the CCAA while the Warriors are third. 
UP NEXT
 
The Warriors will play their first game of the new year on January 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Arcata to take on the Jacks of Humboldt State.
