Faniel nets career-high as Warriors rally late for victory in The Kelp Bed

SEASIDE — The Kelp Bed at Cal State Monterey Bay has been a tough place for the Warriors in recent years and Thursday night's game was another challenge.
 
In the end, Stanislaus State survived the battle against the Otters in a 73-69 win as the Warriors improved to 2-1 in the CCAA. They are now 6-2 overall.
 
Top Warriors on the Night
Vida Faniel carried the team on his back, scoring a career-high 28 points. He was 10 of 17 from the field with the 10 made baskets also a career-best. Faniel was 4-for-7 from the three-point arc.
Xavier Francois was 5 of 11 for 12 points with 11 rebounds for a double-double, his second this season.
Ty Davis netted 11 points with six rebounds and five assists.
 
Key Moments of the Game
• Stan State finished the game on a 10-2 run and 21-11 run in the final six minutes.
• Faniel's three-pointer with 2:19 to play got the Warriors back in the game and his layup in the next possession gave Stan State the final lead.
• The Warriors led seven points early in the second half, but Cal State Monterey Bay turned it around for a nine-point lead with a 20-6 run.
Xavier Francois and Ty Davis each made free throws in the final to seal the win.

• The Warriors ended up shooting 50 percent for the game after a hot 15-for-27 second half (55.6 percent).
• Stan State out-rebounded CSUMB 36-30.
• Stanislaus shot just 4 of 15 from three-point line, Faniel made all four three-pointers. CSUMB made eight.
 
Of Note
• As the Warriors' Head Coach Paul Trevor remains undefeated against Cal State Monterey Bay. He's now 5-0. Overall, including his time at SF State, Trevor is now 11-3 against the Otters.
• Stanislaus State has won five straight games against Cal State Monterey Bay.
 
CCAA Log-Jam
There are now eight teams at 2-1 atop of the CCAA standings. The Warriors are tied with UC San Diego, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Sonoma State — all suffered first conference losses Thursday — as well as Cal Poly Pomona, Chico State, Cal State East Bay and San Francisco State (all won on Thursday).
