Warriors take down Otters to remain undefeated in conference play

SEASIDE – The Warriors took on the Otters Thursday evening in the hopes of staying undefeated in the CCAA. This was the Warriors third conference win of the season already starting off better than their 1-2 CCAA start last year. Stan State beat Cal State Monterey Bay 62-48.
 
The Warriors are now 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the CCAA after a four-game winning streak. The Otters are now 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the CCAA.  
 
THURSDAY NIGHT'S TOP PERFORMERS
  • By halftime, Angelica Baylon and Ashley Hansen were the leading scorers with five points each.
  • Baylon scored double digits for the second time this season! She scored 15 points and led with four steals and two assists.
  • Kaleigh Taylor also scored in double digits with 14 points.
  • Brittney Livingston led with six rebounds. 
TEAM PERFORMANCE
  • The Warriors shot 47.1 percent from the field and did great shooting 83.3 percent from the free throw line. They went 10-for-12 on free throws.
  • Stan State also out-shot and out-rebounded the Otters. They shot 24-51 and had 31 rebounds where the Otters had 27. Monterey Bay shot 18-51 from the field.
  • The Warriors scored 40 points in the paint and 22 off turnovers.
KEY POINTS OF THE GAME
  • The teams were tied at 27-27 at halftime.
  • The Warriors took the first lead of the second half on a 14-point run.
  • The Warriors were down the entire first half until the last three minutes when they caught up to the Otters.
  • It was a slow start for the Warriors but eventually they took control of the game in the second half, leading to their victory. 
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are 18-15 against the Otters since they first met in November 2000.
  • The last time the two teams met the Warriors won, 70-51 in January 2019. 
  • The Warriors won four straight games for the first time since the 2016-17 season (Feb. 3-18), when they had a five-game winning streak.
