Melissa Spencer and
Aliyah Garvin provided the power and with another outstanding pitching performance by
Kyndra Marzorini, the Warriors came away with a doubleheader split on Saturday.
Stanislaus State finally get in the win-column during the conference season with a 3-1 win in game two as the Warriors split to improve to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in the CCAA. Cal State Dominguez Hills won game on 7-4 and is 4-5, 2-4.
Megan Stacy and
Joerdan Lovell hit back-to-back homers in game one.
Trailing 1-0 in the second game, Spencer homered to left for a two-run blast to put the Warriors ahead in the fifth inning. Garvin would add a solo shot to center in the sixth for the final scoring.
On the mound, Marzorini threw a two-hitter for the complete game win. The only Toro run was scored in the first on a throwing error. The freshman pitcher struck out four to improve to 3-2. She also has 47 strikeouts in 37 innings this season.
Sydnee Machado went 3-for-3 in the nightcap, including getting on base with one out ahead of Spencer's two-out homer.
In the first game, the Warriors jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning on back-to-back home runs by Stacy and Lovell. But CSUDH scored six runs in the middle innings mostly caused by Stan State errors to go ahead.
Alexus Martinez finished with 2-for-3 game and Lovell had two of the team's seven hits.
The series concludes with two more games on Sunday at 11 a.m.
