Stan State Takes Home-Opener Over Holy Names

TURLOCK –The softball team came out strong at the Warrior softball field Wednesday evening after a 1-2 start at the MSUB Desert Stinger Tournament. The women took the win over the Holy Names Hawks 5-1. The Warriors are now 2-2 for the season and the Hawks will take their first loss in their season opener.  
 
Freshman pitcher, Kyndra Marzorini, threw a strong seven-inning game only allowing one run and two hits. Marzorini struck out nine and took her first win as a Warrior.
 
The entire Stan State team had high energy and was ready to win their game Wednesday evening. Despite the chill in the air, the women had 8 hits and Holy Names was held to two hits. The Warrior defensive play was strong as the team only allowed Holy Names to have their single run in the first inning.
 
Alexus Martinez went 2-2 scoring the first run of the game. Kayla Fajardo would score the second run in the bottom of the first, going 1-3 for the night, scoring again in the bottom of the fifth. Aliyah Garvin had a great game going 2-4 with 2 RBI. In the third, Deja Guzman scored after Garvin singled to shortstop. The last run of the night was scored by Makenzie Sylvester after Spencer bunted for a single.
 
Maya Yoshiura was fast on the play with ten putouts behind the plate.
 
Synphony Hall pitched six innings for the Hawks receiving her first loss. Cassidy Simon was Holy Names' lead batter going 2-3 with one RBI. Right fielder, Olivia O'Neal would score the only run for the Hawks.
 
The Warriors will be back Friday and Saturday for their first conference double-headers against Cal State Monterey Bay. The first pitch is scheduled for noon on Friday, February 8.
