TURLOCK –The Warriors showed Chico State whose house it was Saturday evening as they upset CCAA's fourth place team, 77-73.
Stan State scored a season high of 77 points to improve to 7-15 overall and 6-12 in conference play. Chico falls to 12-7 overall and 9-7 in conference after their second consecutive loss.
Kyanna Davis had an incredible game once again scoring 20 points. Davis tied with
Kaleigh Taylor with six rebounds whom both led the team for rebounds. Davis had three steals as well. Taylor was a leader in points with 14 and she had three blocks.
Lauren Toler scored 11 points and had the most assists with three.
Stan State shot 73.9 percent from the free throw line going 17-23. Both Chico and Stanislaus were evenly matched in field goals with Stan State making 26 and Chico with 27. The Warriors had 32 points in the paint and stole 16 off turnovers.
For the rest of the night, the Warriors shot 34.8 percent from the three-point arc and 39.4 percent from the field. In the first half of the game, Stan State made six of seven free throws and in the second they went 11 for 16.
The Wildcats won the rebound game with 38 rebounds to the Warriors 34 but Stan State won the battle with 10 steals to Chico's two.
Stan State was neck and neck with the Wildcats for the entire game as the spread of points never reached a lead of 10 for either team. Chico State came out of the first quarter only behind by one point and took the lead coming out of the half, 47-38 (9) which would show the biggest lead for both teams for the entire game.
The women started the second half strong with two free throws and
Caitlin Keding with a three pointer in the first couple minutes. In the last minutes of the game, the battle for victory got harder when the wildcats closed in on the Warriors with a trail of two points making the score 75-73 in the last 12 seconds.
McKena Barker of Chico would foul on
Brittney Livingston where she was able to score the last two points of the game.
Chico had three Wildcats reach double digits; Shay Stark with 22, Natalie Valenzuela had 18 and McKena Barker had 13. Barker also led the Wildcats in rebounds with 11. Madison Wong had ten assists.
After a week off, the Warriors will travel to Pomona to take on the Broncos on February 21, at 5:30 p.m.
