Against one of the top teams in the West Region, the Stanislaus State Warriors scored 24 runs on 33 hits in 16 innings on Sunday to sweep a double-dip at Cal State Monterey Bay. Stan State won 9-6 in game one and 15-2, in seven innings, in the finale.
Stan State, which came within a tough 10
th inning loss Friday night to sweeping Cal State Monterey Bay at its home, improved to 13-7 overall and 9-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. CSUMB is now 11-11, 9-7 CCAA.
Vinny Margiotta drove in eight runs and
Jack Large went 6-for-10 with two homers, a double and drove in five runs as the Warriors batted .434 in Sunday's doubleheader.
Braeden Oki also had five hits and
Brandon De La Guardia batted in four runs to lead the charge.
For the series, the Warriors batted .387 and out-scored the Otters 39-19 with 18 extra base hits (13 doubles, a triple and four homeruns).
In game one on Sunday, three Warriors — Oki, Margiotta and Large — each had three hits. Margiotta cashed in on the RBIs with runners in scoring position as he doubled in two runs in each of the first two innings. Even when he made an out, he drove in a run as his flyout scored De La Guadia in the fourth.
Then,
Grant Bunker's sac fly in the eighth gave the Warriors a 9-4 lead.
Pulos had another great relief outing, this time with two hitless innings with three strikeouts for a save.
Rylan Tinsley earned his fourth win of the season tossing the first 5 2/3 innings with three earned runs allowed on 10 hits and five strikeouts.
The hitting onslaught continued in the night cap as the Warriors scored four runs in the first. In fact they put-up three four-run innings in the shortened, seven-inning finale.
Large had three of the team's 18 hits include two homers. He hit a solo shot in the third to make it 5-0 then blasted a three-run bomb in the seventh for the final punch-out. Large also had a RBI double in the first for a 5-RBI game.
Grant Victor and De La Guardia each had three more hits and Margiotta drove in three more runs with more timely hitting.
Kevin Hahn threw all seven innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts to improve to 3-1 on the season.
