SAN MARCOS –The Warriors won their sixth straight CCAA game Friday afternoon as they went 2-0 against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars. Stan State came out hot in game one on Friday as they scored six in the top of the first, winning the game 6-4. Just as it looked like they would be heading into extra innings in game two, the Warriors scored three in the top of the seventh to win the game 3-0.
The team is now 11-14 overall with a conference record of 7-11. Cal State San Marcos is 6-12 overall and 5-11 in the CCAA.
Sophomore catcher and third baseman,
Maya Yoshiura, hit her fourth homerun of the season in game one and drove in two RBI. Yoshiura went 2 for 6 overall.
Lia Tom went 3 for 7 on Friday with two runs and an RBI.
Joerdan Lovell went 4 for 6 and also batted in two runs.
Aliyah Garvin doubled down the left field line in game one, allowing
Alexus Martinez and
Melissa Spencer to both score.
Megan Stacy earned a win for herself in game one, pitching 5.2 innings. She allowed four hits, no earned runs, walked one and shut out five. Stacy now holds a record of two wins and five losses.
The second game went to
Kyndra Marzorini who continues to lead the CCAA with 72 strikeouts. Marzorini is now 7-5. She pitched the entire second game and struck out five. Marzorini held the Cougars to zero runs and only walked one.
Cal State San Marcos now has a three-game losing streak after the doubleheader loss to Stan State. The Cougars scored four in the bottom of the second of game one and then went scoreless from there on through the rest of the day.
Right-fielder, Kat Calderon, went 2 for 3 with an RBI and one run. The Cougars had a total of 13 hits on Friday and only three RBI. Nikki Andelin went 3 for 3 in game two for San Marcos.
The Warriors had a total of 15 hits and nine RBI. Even though the Warriors went scoreless after the first inning in game one, there hot bats were all that were needed to win that game.
Stan State will continue the series with San Marcos, tomorrow, March 16, starting at 11 a.m.
