Cal State L.A. took both ends of doubleheader on Saturday

LOS ANGELES — Having to play catch-up all day, the Stanislaus State Warriors came up short on both ends of the doubleheader on Saturday to host Cal State L.A.

The Golden Eagles won game one 6-2 and followed it with a 5-2 nightcap win for the twinbill sweep. The Warriors have lost the first three games of the four-game series to fall to 13-10, 9-8 in the CCAA. Stanislaus State will have to try and avoid the series sweep and salvage the trip with a win on Sunday.

Cal State L.A. (10-12, 9-9 CCAA) got more good pitching from its staff with starters Saxon Andross and Micah Hee turning in quality starts. Andross two runs on five hits in seven innings in game one and Hee threw all seven innings in the nightcap with two runs, five hits and struck out seven.

LA went to 2-0 in game one but the Warriors tied the game in the third with RBIs by Braeden Oki and Alexis Paz. But a pair of two-run innings by the host held the Warriors away.

Brandon De La Guardia doubled and tripled for two of the team's seven hits. Tyler Murphy suffered the loss on the mound with six runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three.

In the nightcap, the Golden Eagles scored four runs in the first two innings against Rylan Tinsley (6 innings pitched, five runs on eight hits). The Warriors got a run in the third with a Vinny Margiotta RBI single and a run in the fourth with a solo homer by Jack Large.

The series concludes on Sunday at Noon.
