Warriors pound Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside

SEASIDE — Alexis Paz homered for the second consecutive game and the Warriors use two big innings to pound Cal State Monterey Bay, 10-5, on Saturday.

After about an one-hour rain delay, Stanislaus State and Cal State Monterey Bay managed to get one game out of the scheduled double-dip in on the day. Teams will play the final two games of the series on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.

The Warriors avenged Friday afternoon's 10th inning heartbreaking loss with a lot of offense again on Saturday. Stan State scored three runs in the fourth to make it 4-2, then after Cal State Monterey Bay tied the game at 4-4, the Warriors scored five runs in the sixth and tagged on 10th run in the seventh to blow the Otters away.

Paz homered — a solo blast — in the fourth to start the three-run rally. Brandon DeLa Guardia drew a bases loaded walk and a Braedan Oki sac fly made it 4-2.

Three walks and a hit by pitch and three hits contributed to the Warriors' five-run sixth. Grant Victor provided the big blow with a two-run double. Vinny Margiotta and Jack Large also drove in runs in the inning.

In all, the Warriors scattered 11 hits with two doubles, a triple and a homer. All but one starter in the lineup had at least a hit. De La Guardia went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Victor and Large each had two hits.

Starter Tyler Murphy threw five innings and gave up four runs on five hits for the win. His team scored those five runs before he was replaced by Brandon Scott. Scott tossed the final four frames for the save. He gave up just a run on three hits.
