POMONA — Home team Cal Poly Pomona held the upper-hand on Saturday in a pair of well-played baseball games as the Broncos swept a pair from Stanislaus State, 5-3 and 3-2.
With the twinbill setbacks, the Warriors now find themselves having to win Sunday's finale to earn a series split.
The good news is that Sunday's game will be Stan State's final regular season away contest as the Warriors will finish the 2019 schedule with 10 straight home games prior to the postseason.
The Warriors, now 23-16, 19-14 CCAA, remain in fourth place in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona improved to 18-22, 16-18 and are 12-9 at home. Stan State is just 10-11 in road games as compared to a remarkable 13-5 mark at Warrior Baseball Field.
Cal Poly Pomona pitching held the solid hitting Warriors to just five hits a game on Saturday after allowing 16 hits in Friday's opener.
Grant Bunker went 2-for-4 in Saturday's game one and
Braeden Oki was 2-for-4 in the nightcap.
Brandon De La Guardia was the only Warrior to have a hit in each game.
Bunker doubled and homered in the first game. His solo homer in the sixth inning made it 5-3.
Oki stole another base in game two as he continues to lead the CCAA with 16 stolen bases (16-for-16).
Tyler Murphy suffered the loss with six innings of work. He gave up four runs on eight hits, struck out five and walked three. Austin Isenhart threw the complete game shut-out for Cal Poly Pomona. He gave up two earned runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts.
Rylan Tinsley will have to wait for his next start to pick up his eighth win as the freshman was tagged with the loss in game two. He threw five innings, gave up three runs on six hits and fanned two Broncos with two walks. He's now 7-3.
