Pomona wins finale over Warriors with a 3-run inning

POMONA — Clinging to a one-run lead, the Warriors turned to the normally reliable bullpen.
 
Well, the opposition's offense got the upper-hand THIS time. Cal Poly Pomona scored three runs in the sixth inning against Brandon Scott as the host Broncos took the finale in another one-run game, 3-2, to win the series.
 
The good news for Stan State is Sunday's game was that it was the Warriors' last regular season road game. Stanislaus State (23-17, 19-15 CCAA) will finish the regular season with 10 home games at Warrior Baseball Field, where the Warriors are 13-5 this season.
 
Sunday's game was another tightly contested, good baseball game, where no one made mistakes (at least none official errors charged). Jayce Gardner singled up the middle to drive in Grant Bunker in the fourth for a 1-0 lead.
 
But two doubles in the sixth by Cal Poly Pomona (20-22, 18-18 CCAA) led to three Bronco runs.

Gardner homered in the ninth for make it 3-2 to finish 3-for-4 and drove in two scores. Grant Victor was 2-for-3 and Bunker also had two hits.
 
Kevin Hahn threw five shutout innings, allowed just three hits and struck out three before handing the pitching duties to Scott to start the sixth. Scott, who had shut-down opponents and entered the game with a 0.86 ERA. Opponents were batting .146 against him.
 
Matt Pulos came in in the sixth to limit the damage. Pulos threw 2 1/3 shutout innings with two strikeouts to end the game, running his scoreless streak to 26 2/3 innings. Chase Wheatcroft had set a new school record with 27 1/3 scoreless innings earlier this season.
 
Stanislaus State will open the 10-game home stand starting on Thursday against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
