Warriors win with dramatic walk-off, clinch CCAA tournament berth

TURLOCK — In dramatic fashion, the Warriors punched their ticket to the CCAA postseason tournament as Stanislaus State won game one of Saturday's double-dip, 4-3, over San Francisco State.

Jayce Gardner delivered a walk-off double down the left-field line to score Nathan Gutierrez from first to end the see-saw battle.

San Francisco State rebounded big in the nightcap with a 10-2, 7-inning win.

Stan State is now 28-19 overall and 24-17 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after the split. With that game one victory, the Warriors have secured a spot in the CCAA tournament, May 8-11 at Stockton's Banner Island Ballpark. It will be the Warriors' fourth appearance in the postseason event, first since 2017.

Trailing 2-1 in a pitching dual between Tyler Murphy and Jordyn Eglite, the Warriors tied the game in the eighth on a Brandon De La Guardia squeeze bunt scoring pinch runner Michael Wyatt.

SF State (22-14-1, 20-14 CCAA) went back up 3-2 in the ninth after Shaq Robinson was hit by a pinch. Pinch runner Jonah Gonzalez stole two bases and scored on a Brady Dorn single to left.

But, the Warriors answered back.

Jack Large, who went 2-for-4 in the game, double to start the rally. After a sac bunt moving pinch runner Charles Sperback to third, Gutierrez tied the game with a single down the right-field line to tie the game. Then, with two outs, Gardner worked the count full before slapping the double that scored Gutierrez.

Gardner ended up 3-for-3 in the game.

It was all San Francisco State in the nightcap as the Gators scored in every inning except for the fifth for the bounce-back win. The Warriors scattered seven hits, but was never really able to get much going with just one hit per inning.

Grant Bunker went 2-for-3 in the second game and Alexis Paz finally broke out a 0-for-37 slump with a RBI single up the middle in the seventh inning.

The series finale is on Sunday at Noon, when the Warriors will recognize 10 seniors pregame.
