TURLOCK – The Warriors were faced with a challenging game on Saturday afternoon as they lost to Saint Martin's, 1-4. This is Stan State's second loss of the season. The Warriors fought and stayed strong in the first half but a tough Saints' offense in the second half would show the Warriors' defeat.
Stan State is now 3-2-0 as Saint Martin's succeeds to 4-1-1.
GOALS
- Brandon Madsen started out strong for Saint Martin's when he scored their first goal in the 4th minute. Jason Fairhurst assisted with a pass across from the right wing to Madsen at the far post for a header on goal.
- Ryan Kane took a penalty kick to tie up the game in the 37th minute, shooting right past Saint Martin's GK.
- Saints, Oscar Aguilar, shot from low left for an unassisted goal in the 49th minute to bring the Saints ahead, 2-1.
- De ja vu: Madsen came in with his second goal in the 53rd minute, assisted once again by No. 20 Fairhurst.
- The Saints could not be stopped in the second half as No. 2 Jose Marques was assisted by Stephen Murray to make the score, 4-1.
GOALKEEPER NOTES
- Despite a tough second half, Justin Motzkus made all three of his saves in the second half.
NOTEWORTHY
- This is the first time the Warriors and the Saints have played each other in season play. They are now 0-1.
- Both teams shot 50 percent in the first half with three shots each.
