TURLOCK —
Sierra Adams is back folks.
The returning All-American pounded away 19 kills as Adams led the Warriors to a well-played, tight four-set victory over Cal State Monterey Bay, 21-25, 27-25, 25-22, 26-24, Saturday night.
Flipping the script on their opponents, the Warriors did what Chico State did to them Wednesday night: they rallied late, several times, to overcome the Otters.
The Warriors are now 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA while Monterey Bay dips to 4-6 and 0-3 in league play.
Top Performances of the Night
•
Sierra Adams had a season-high 19 kills to lead the way. She had been sidelined with injuries and finally made her return Wednesday night against Chico State in limited action. Saturday versus CSUMB, she was at full strength and it showed.
•
Jordon Wilson smacked 10 kills with five blocks with an ace.
•
Krista Hernandez posted a Stan State career-high 27 digs to lead a stellar defensive night.
•
Mary June Ubag made some key-momentum rally-saving digs, especially in the fourth set. She had six of her 14 digs in the critical winning set to help the Warriors avoid a fifth set.
•
Eyriana Eatmon had most of the setting duties on the night. She dished a career-high 36 assists with 15 digs.
•
Rachel Klopfer also had a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs.
Won't-Quit Warriors
• In the second set, Stan State held off CSUMB set-point by rolling off three straight points for the 27-25 win to even the match at 1-1.
• A 9-3 run in the middle of set three gave the Warriors control as they took a 16-9 lead and eventually won to go up two games to one.
• CSUMB dominated the fourth early and led 13-5. Then at 21-12 Otters, Stanislaus State turned the tides to deny CSUMB. The Warriors went on a 14-3 run to end the match.
Noteworthy
•
Sierra Adams was just one kill shy of 20, a feat she accomplished four times last season.
• The match had a lot of long rallies, which resulted in a lot of digs. In all, teams combined for 202 digs. Stan State had 103, which is the most since Oct. 10, 2015 when the Warriors had 108 against Cal Poly Pomona.
