Warriors rallies with three unanswered goals for dramatic double OT win

TURLOCK – The Warriors took on the Raiders of Southern Oregon on Thursday night for their home opener. This match was a part of the four-team Warriors Challenge at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors defeated the Raiders in double overtime, 4-3.  
 
Stanislaus State succeeded to 1-0-0 while Southern Oregon dropped to 2-2-0.
 
GOALS
  • Maddi Childers from Southern Oregon scored from a Maddie Casey corner kick in the 45th minute.
  • Raider Baylee Touey scored in the 51st minute assisted by Mia Volpatti.
  • Ilena Rivera scored the first goal of the season in the 65th minute from a free kick by Sadie Ortiz.
  • Touey scored in the 67th minute with an assist by Michala Denn, shooting past Alyssa Herrman.
  • Summer England scored an incredible unassisted goal in the 81st minute to cut the Stan State deficit to 3-2.
  • After a scramble in front of the box, England collected a Rivera rebound and kicked it in to tie the game 3-3 in the 80th minute.
  • In double overtime, Selia Torres took a shot that GK Kailey Lemon dropped and Sadie Ortiz finished out the goal to win the game, 4-3!
 
GOALKEEPER NOTES
  • Alyssa Herrman had a great kick-save early in the sixth minute to turn away Touey.
  • Herrman kept the game from being 3-0 in the 61st minute with another sliding kick-save after 1v1 breakaway chance by Touey.
 
FROM HEAD COACH GABRIEL BOLTON:
       " We played with a lot of heart tonight. SOU is a fantastic team with amazing pace. While we had the majority of possession for most of the night they were the more dangerous team. I'm proud of our women for fighting the entire match. We grew a lot as a team tonight."
    
NOTEWORTHY
  • This is the first time since 2015 that Southern Oregon has scored on Stan State. The Warriors had outscored SOU 11-0 in three previous meetings.
  • Southern Oregon has two wins over ranked NAIA teams so far this season.
  • The Warriors out-shot the Raiders 28-8.
  • Sonoma State beat No. 22 Concordia Portland, 3-2, in double overtime in the other match on Thursday.
NEXT MATCH
The Warriors will take on Concordia-Portland on Saturday. Kick off is at Noon. These two teams met for the first time last Sept. 8 in Portland with Concordia victorious 2-0.
