Hoy scores twice as Warriors topple No. 22 Concordia

TURLOCK — The Warriors held off No. 22 Concordia as Stanislaus State blanked the Cavaliers, 2-0, Saturday afternoon during the Warrior Challenge.

Skyler Hoy scored both goals for Stanislaus State, which remains perfect with a 2-0-0 record while Concordia dropped to 0-2-0. With Southern Oregon's 1-0 win over Sonoma State, the Warriors won the tournament with a 2-0 mark.

GOOOOALS
• In the 20th minute, Skyler Hoy scored her first goal of the season on a beautiful header at the left post. The ball came across from Autumn Halvorsen, who placed the ball perfectly. Sarah Stralen's out-let pass set up the scoring play.

• Two long great passes set up the second goal by Hoy. Jocelyn Lopez sent the ball from the back field to the midfield circle, where Sadie Ortiz turned her defender and slipped the pass between three Cavaliers to find Hoy. Hoy blasted the shot in over the keeper with her left foot.

"Defensively we made big improvements from Thursday night. Megan Stavish started the match today and brought terrific leadership to the field.

"Skyler goals were fantastic. She used all her attacking skills to earn a brace.

"It is exciting to see this group coming together. The experience of Alyssa Herrman, Ilena Rivera, Sadie Ortiz, Jenna Zuniga and other returners is meshing with some new players including Jocelyn Lopez, Abby Martinez, Daisy Martinez and a great group of freshmen."
