TURLOCK – The Warriors came out fighting Saturday evening as they took over the No. 23 Cougars in a seven-point victory. The women played strong and hard as they showed full power in the first half which ultimately led to their victory. Stan State beat Cal State San Marcos 62-55.
The Warriors are now 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the CCAA. The Cougars are 7-3 in conference and 12-3 overall.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE NIGHT
- Coming out of the first half, Caitlin Keding led with nine points and Lizzie Moore had scored eight points and led with six rebounds and two blocks.
- Ultimately, Moore led the team with her first double-double as a Warrior! She scored 15 points and made ten rebounds.
- Moore also had three blocks.
- Kyanna Davis scored 14 points and was a team-leader on Saturday showing her initiative throughout the game.
- Keding ended the night with eleven points.
- Angelica Baylon led with four steals and four assists.
TEAM PERFORMANCE
- The Warriors came out of the first quarter leading 14-10 and the second scoring 16-7 over the Cougars.
- The team shot 76.7 percent from the free throw line going 23 for 30.
- They went 3 for 8 from the three-point arc and shot 39.1 percent from the field.
- The Warriors outbounded the Cougars 33-25.
- Stan State scored 24 points in the paint and 19 off turnovers.
WARRIORS ON FIRE IN THE FIRST
- The Warriors played incredible defense in the first half not only leading coming out of the first quarter but also the half as whole at 30-17.
- In just the first half alone, the Warriors outshot the Cougars and outbounded them by eight rebounds.
- The Warriors are 5-1 in games where they lead coming out of the first quarter as well as at halftime.

NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 6-2 against Cal State San Marcos since they first met not too long ago in January 2016.
- The last time the two teams met in February 2019, the Warriors beat the Cougars 69-64.
- This is the first time the Warriors have played a WBCA Top 25 ranked Cougars team.
- The last time the Warriors beat a ranked team was in the 2017-18 season on January 18, 2018 when they beat No. 24 UC San Diego 82-78.

The Warriors will head to Los Angeles on January 16 to take on the Golden Eagles in their second time meeting up this season. The first time they met this season, in December, the Warriors lost, 82-85.
