SAN MARCOS –The Warriors took on a tough Cougars team on Thursday evening as they unfortunately fell 59-73. The first time the two teams played this season the Warriors were able to pull off an incredible win against the ranked team but this time around Stan State fell short in the second half.
The Warriors are now 11-9 overall and 9-6 in the CCAA. The Cougars are 16-4 after tonight's win and 11-4 in the CCAA.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE NIGHT
- Kaleigh Taylor was back on top leading with 11 points.
- Brittany Livingston led in rebounds for the sixth time this season with six.
- Angelica Baylon led with six assists and also had two steals.
- Leading with four steals was Lizzy Alexander.
- Caitlin Keding went 3 for 4 from the free throw line and scored eight points.
TEAM PERFORMANCE
- The team came out in the first strong and ready to win, they led after the first 14-10 with an 8-1 record of winning games this season when they lead after the first.
- Unfortunately, in the second, the team led the Cougars get away after they had held a seven-point lead. Going into halftime the Warriors were down 25-28.
- With only five minutes left in the game, the Warriors had fallen 47-59.
- The team went 9 for 17 from the free throw line shooting 52.9 percent.
- The Warriors went 22 for 59 from the field and 6 for 16 from the three-point arc.
- Stan State had a lead of eight points which was their largest lead during the game in the second quarter.
- The Warriors scored 28 points in the paint and 20 off turnovers.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 6-3 against the Cougars since they first met in January 2016 during their CCAA era.
- The last time the two teams met was on January 11, 2020 when the Warriors upset the then, No. 23 Cougars, 62-55.
- This is only the third time this season that the Warriors have scored under 60 points.
- This is also one of the only games this season to have only one Warrior score double-digits.
- This is only the second time in the Coach Strickland era in which the Warriors have lost to the Cougars.

The Warriors will take on the UC San Diego Tritons on Saturday, February 1 at 5:30 p.m. with the hopes of redeeming themselves this time around.
