LA JOLLA – The Warriors had a tough night as they faced the UC San Diego Tritons on Saturday. The team struggled picking up their momentum during the game and couldn't make up for a 27-point deficit after the first half. The Warriors lost to the Tritons by 28 with a final score of 82-54.
The Warriors are now 11-10 overall and 9-7 in the CCAA. The Tritons succeed to 17-4 overall and 13-3 in the CCAA.
KEY PLAYERS OF THE GAME
- At the half, Kyanna Davis was leading with five points and five rebounds. Davis ended the game with eight points, leading with nine rebounds and two blocks.
- Lizzy Alexander led the night with nine points.
- Both Alexander and Angelica Baylon made three assists.
- Baylon also had eight points.
- UC San Diego had four players in double figures that the Warriors just couldn't stop.
TEAM PERFORMANCE
- The team had a hard time keeping up with the Tritons and fell behind 45-18 at halftime.
- The Warriors picked up more momentum in the second half as they were down by 18 with two minutes left in the third but eventually fell once again by 27.
- The Warriors only scored four three-pointers shooting under 30 percent.
- Stan State went 14-for-20 from the free throw line shooting 70 percent.
- The Warriors scored 24 points in the paint and seven off turnovers.
- The team held back from turning over the ball with only 11 turnovers but they struggled on defense trying to stop the Tritons from scoring.
NOTEWORTHY
- Stan State is 7-33 against the Tritons since they first met in January 2001.
- The last time the two teams met was on January 9, 2020 when the Warriors lost to the Tritons 56-76.
- The last time the team was down by 27 points was also against UC San Diego in January 2020.
- This is the most the Warriors have lost by this season since they last lost to UC San Diego by 20 in January.
