Tinsley fans 11, Jones, Garcia go yard as Stan State opens 2020 win victory

TURLOCK — Rylan Tinsley picked up where he left off after a great freshman season as the new staff ace dominated on the mound as Stanislaus State began the 2020 season with a 10-1 win over Central Washington.
 
Warriors belted two homers — by Zach Jones and Jacob Garcia — as part of a 14-hit game en route to the big offensive game.

Warriors of the Game
Rylan Tinsley struck out 11 batters in six innings. He gave up just a run on three hits. In his final outing of 2019, Tinsley fanned 13 in 6 2/3 innings in the CCAA tournament game to beat Chico State.
Zach Jones's first at-bat as a Warrior resulted in a three-run homer to deep centerfield. He went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
Jayce Gardner went 3-for-4 with a double
Jacob Garcia homered in the seventh, a two-run shot to left.
Matt Elser also went 2-for-5 with a double.
• Alexia Paz bad two hits and drove in two runs.
Tommy Stropky threw three shutout innings without allowing a hit. He got the three-inning save.

Game Notes
• Stan State sent nine batters to the plate in the four-run fifth with the first seven batters all reached base.
Rylan Tinsley retired 12 of 13 Wildcats at one point, including five straight strikeouts.
• Every Stan State starter reached base and eight of nine Warriors had at least a hit.
 
Series Notes
• The Warriors extend their winning streak against Central Washington to 13 games, dating back to 2008.

Stanislaus State and Central Washington play two games on Saturday to complete the 3-game series. Local standouts Tyler Meyer (Big Valley Christian HS) and Casey Carr (Turlock HS) will be making their collegiate debuts on the mound. First pitch of game one is at noon.
