TURLOCK – The Warriors were looking to pull out the win against UC San Diego but couldn't keep up after a 27-point deficit in the second quarter. They were able to come back by a little but eventually the team was tired and fell 56-76.
The Warriors now bring their record to 7-7 and their CCAA record to 5-4. The Tritons are 5-3 in the CCAA and 9-4 overall.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE NIGHT
- The Warriors had a tough time shooting around the Triton's defense Thursday Night as UCSD had four shooters in double digits.
- Kyanna Davis led with 16 points which is her ninth game this season scoring double digits. Davis also led with five rebounds.
- Lizzie Moore scored 11 points and made four rebounds.
- Davis had three steals.
TEAM PERFORMANCE
- The Warriors shot 64.5 percent going 20-31 from the free throw line.
- The women scored 16 points off turnovers and 18 points in the paint.
- This was a foul-ridden game which was a big downfall for the Warriors.
- Despite the loss, both teams had equal possession of the ball with 70 each.
A PROMISING THIRD QUARTER
- Despite a deficit of 27 in the second quarter, the women brought back their momentum in the third and were only down by 13.
- They outshot the Tritons in accuracy as well as keeping up with them on rebounds.
- This rally gave the Warriors a fighting change going into the fourth and final quarter.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 7-32 against the Tritons since they first met in January 2001.
- The last time the two teams met was January 31, 2019 when the Warriors lost to the No. 2 Tritons, 67-94.
- This was the first time in nine games in which Coach Strickland changed the lineup.
- The last time the Warriors lost by 20 or more points was the last time in January 2019 when they played the Tritons in La Jolla.
