Stan State used two big innings to blow away Sonoma State to open CCAA season

TURLOCK — Stanislaus State improved to 7-0, its best start since 2011, as the Warriors used two big innings to blow away Sonoma State Friday night.

The Warriors scored 10 runs in the seventh and eighth innings versus the Seawolf bullpen to begin the CCAA season with the win.
 
WARRIORS OF THE GAME
• Starter Rylan Tinsley threw seven shutout innings, allowed just two hits and fanned seven batters to improve to 3-0.
Dylon Jackson went 3-for-5 as the top hitter.
Grant Bunker was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs. He scored three times.
Jacob Garcia also had two hits, including a two-run double.
Alexis Paz drove in two runs.

THE TWO BIG INNINGS
• Stanislaus State scored 10 runs in its final two innings on offense to turn a tight 2-0 game into a 12-0 lead.
• In the four-run seventh, Jacob Garcia doubled off the left-field wall to score Dylon Jackson. Jayce Gardner drew a bases loaded walk to plate Garcia. Then a failed pickoff attempt at first resulted in two more Warrior runs.
• In the six-run eighth, Jacob Garcia singled to left to score Dylon Jackson to open the scoring.
Grant Bunker singled in two runs, Alexis Paz grounded out to first for another score and Matt Elser capped the rally with a two-run single up the middle.
 
SCORING AT WILL
• Thought seven games the Warriors are scoring an average of 9.4 runs per game, outscoring opponents 66 to 21.
• The team is batting .311 while the opposition is hitting .204.
• The Warriors have scored in double digits four times and seven or more runs in each game.
 
NOTEWORTHY
• The Warriors are off to a 7-0 start, the best since the 2011 season. That team also began 10-1.
• This was the teams' 100th meeting during the CCAA era, since 1998. Sonoma State still leads 76-24.
• Stan State's win snapped a three-game skid against Sonoma State.

The Warriors and Sonoma State will play a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game scheduled for 1 p.m.
