Warriors sweep Pioneers in home opener

TURLOCK –The Warriors opened at home on Friday against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers and took both games with ease. The Warriors definitely felt that home field advantage as they flew through game one and took game two by four.
 
The Warriors defeated the Pioneers 3-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two.
 
Stan State is now 5-6 overall and 4-2 in the CCAA. The Pioneers are 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the CCAA after tonight.
 
TOP PERFORMERS
  • Korie Corral took Friday night by storm after going 3-for-5 overall with a run and two RBI.
  • Corral also hit an incredibly powerful triple in game two.
  • In the first game, Desiree Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
  • Not only did Gonzalez do great overall but she also had two back to back stolen bases in game one.
  • Joerdan Lovell was a hitting machine as she earned two RBI and a run on Friday.
  • Aliyah Garvin went 1-for-2 with a run and played excellent out in left.
PITCHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both games held great pitching for their Warriors as Kyndra Marzorini earned her second win of the season and Delaney Pamplin earned her third.
  • Pamplin continues to be undefeated after she pitched seven innings in the first game and struck out three.
  • Pamplin only allowed four hits and walked none!
  • Marzorini was back striking out eight and only allowed six hits and one run. She pitched seven innings to bring home another win.
  • Marzorini also went 1-for-1 with a run and RBI. 
A TEAM EFFORT
  • The Warriors went 10-for-47 overall with eight runs and eight RBI.
  • Despite the majority of runs in game two were from being walked, the Warriors took these and kept fighting.
  • In game one, the Warriors held great defense and offense and were not going to let the Pioneers take the game from them.
  • Game two held some more challenges as the Warriors could have picked up their hitting but this didn't stop them from winning both games.
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are 28-18 against the Pioneers since they first met in March 1999.
  • The last time the two teams met the Warriors went 4-0 against the Pioneers. The Warriors beat the Pioneers; 7-1,1-0,3-0 and 7-1 on February 28 and March 1, 2019.

The Warriors will close out the four-game series at home against Cal State East Bay on Saturday, February 15 starting at Noon.
