Warriors take down No. 18 Tritons in nightcap on day one of series

LA JOLLA  – Due to weather, the Warriors started their four-game series against the Tritons on Thursday instead of Friday. The Warriors split with the 18th ranked Tritons on Thursday night and fought as hard as they could to keep the win for the second game. Game one showed the Warriors a hard loss but they kept up their momentum for the rest of the evening. 

The Warriors lost game one 0-5 and won game two 3-2. 

Stan State is now 6-9 overall and 5-5 in the CCAA. The Tritons are now 14-5 overall and 5-5 in the CCAA. 

LEADERS OF THE NIGHT
  • The Warriors started out slow with game one after the Tritons scored four in the bottom of the fourth. 
  • The Warriors only had two hits by Korie Corral and Morgan Leonard
  • Desiree Gonzalez had one sac bunt in the top of the first to advance Corral to second.
  • Corral played great as she finished out the day going 2-for-3 with and RBI and a double.
  • Madison Flexser also had a good game for the nightcap, she went 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and a double. 
  • Deja Guzman and Kyndra Marzorini scored the other two runs of the day.
PITCHING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Delaney Pamplin pitched six innings for game one and was handed her second loss of the season. She is now 3-2. 
  • Kyndra Marzorini pitched seven innings and struckout five to help lead the Warriors to victory. She is now 3-3 this year.
A TEAM EFFORT 
  • Even though the team had a hard time at bat Thursday night, they were able to take down the Tritons by one.
  • The Warriors scored all three runs in the top of the second. In the second inning, the Warriors showed their strength at the plate. 
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Warriors are 26-59 against the Tritons since they first met in March 2001. 
  • The last time the two teams met the Tritons were ranked No. 17. The Tritons swept the Warriors in the four-game series in February 2019. 
  • The Warriors lost in the last game of the series 1-10 in five innings. 
  • The other three games the Warriors lost; 3-8, 2-4, 3-4. 
  • UC San Diego is expected to finish first in the CCAA this year according to the preseason poll.
  • The Warriors had a five game losing streak against the Tritons after the first game but then broke that streak as they won the second game!

The Warriors finish out the four-game series in La Jolla on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
