Stan State couldn't overcome off-night, HSU's hot shooting in loss

TURLOCK — The Warriors found a bad night to have bad shooting game as Humboldt State stormed out to a big lead early en route to a 79-64 decision Saturday night.

Stanislaus State, which had already clinched a berth in the CCAA Tournament, dropped to 11-10 in CCAA play after the loss to the league's last place team. Humboldt State moved out of the cellar with the win and is now 5-16 (9-17 overall).
 
Top Warriors of the Night
• After being recognized in pregame for his career assists record, Ty Davis went to basket and scored Saturday night.
• Davis led the Warriors with 24 points on 7 of 10 shooting. He was also 10 of 13 at the free throw line.
Luis Salgado scored eight points with four rebounds, two assists and five steals.
Vida Faniel led the team with six rebounds.
 
Bad Shooting Night
• The Warriors shot 38.7 percent for the game and just 11.8 percent (2 for 17) from the three-point arc.
• The 11.8 percent from distance was a season-low.
• The 38.7 FG shooting percentage is the fourth lowest this year.
 
Humboldt's Hot Start
• Humboldt State shot 48.3 percent for the game, but was at 78 percent early in the game.
• Leland Green made his first five three-point attempts early in the first half en route to a 30-point game.
• HSU led by 24, 32-8, at 9:40 in the first half.
• Their largest lead was 27 points, 64-37, at 8:33 in the second half.
 
Warriors Rallied Back
• Stan State used a 21-2 run come all the way back to within eight at 66-58 with 3:42 left to play.
 
CCAA Tournament Berth
• The Warriors are a lock to be at least the No. 6 seed but could be as high as the No. 5 seed in the tournament.
• A win next Saturday or two losses by Cal State East Bay would mean the Warriors could finish in fifth.
• Stan State has the tiebreaker against Cal State East Bay, which is currently in fifth at 11-9 with two games left.
 
Up Next
The Warriors complete their regular season next Saturday when they host Chico State on Senior Night.
