TURLOCK – Stanislaus State and Humboldt State ended up in a dramatic, intense game as the Warriors held on to beat the Lumberjacks, 65-63, in the final seconds Saturday night.
The Warriors had already clinched a spot in the CCAA Tournament before tipping off Saturday night since Cal State L.A. had loss in an matinee to Cal Poly Pomona.
The Warriors are now 14-12 overall and 12-9 in the CCAA. The Jacks are 15-11 overall with an 11-10 conference record.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE NIGHT
- Caitlin Keding led at the half with ten points. She led the team at the end with 17 points and four steals.
- Keding went 3-5 from the three-point and 7-10 from the field.
- Kyanna Davis led with six rebounds and scored ten points.
- Kaleigh Taylor scored 11 points.
- Angelica Baylon was the frontrunner with six assists once again.
- Brittney Livingston shot 100 percent from the free throw line.
THE TEAM WAS READY TO PLAY
- The Warriors had a pretty steady lead over the Jacks until they let them catch up in the second half.
- Both teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter until the Jacks eventually took the lead which caused the game to pick up energy.
- Davis ended up sinking the free throw to take the Warriors to 65.
- Three free throws at the end of the game would take the Warriors over the top to win the game.
- The team scored 18 points in the paint and 17 off turnovers.
- The Warriors shot 76.5 percent from the free throw line overall. They went 10-27 from the three-point arc and 21-53 from the field.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 7-22 against the Jacks since they first met in January 2007.
- The last time the two teams met the Warriors lost to Humboldt, 72-79 on January 4, 2020.
- The Warriors clinched a CCAA tournament game after Cal State L.A. lost and really solidified it with their win.
- This is the Warriors first CCAA tournament appearance since 2017 and their fifth overall.
- Stan State is still mathematically eligible to finish in the top four to host a first-round game on Tuesday, March 3.
