SAN BERNARDINO –The Warriors came out strong in the opening day of their series against Cal State San Bernardino when they hit two homeruns and beat the Coyotes in game one, 10-5. As for game two, the momentum was down for both teams.
The Warriors downed the Coyotes in game one 10-5 with two homeruns. In the nightcap, the Warriors fell 0-2.
The Warriors are now 7-12 overall and 6-8 in the CCAA. The Coyotes are 10-9 overall and 8-6 in the conference.
LEADERS OF THE DAY
- Megan Stacy earned her first win of the season when she led the Warriors pitching 3.1 innings and striking out one. She is 1-3 this season.
- Kyndra Marzorini started off the game pitching; she pitched 3.2 innings.
- Marzorini was strong at the plate on Friday, she went 1-for-4 overall with a run, RBI, a double and a stolen base.
- Joerdan Lovell and Payton West were the homerun hitters of the day and had high energy.
- Lovell went 2-for-5 overall with two runs, three RBI and her incredible home run.
- West went 2-for-6 and also had two runs, three RBI and a homerun.
- There were several other Warriors who were strong leaders of the day like Aliyah Garvin and Madison Flexser who both had a run and a stolen base.
- Sidney Crippen-Lay pinch hit for Melissa Spencer and scored a run.
- Desiree Gonzalez went 2-for-7 and scored two runs.
- Korie Corral went 1-for-6 and earned an RBI.
Game one Highlights
- Right off the first few plays of the day; the Warriors already led 3-0 over the Coyotes.
- Kyndra Marzorini doubled to left field and allowed Desiree Gonzalez to score.
- Not too much later, Joerdan Lovell hit the first home run of the year and earned two RBI, making the score 3-0 in the top of the first.
- Lovell made way for another run and earned herself another RBI when Gonzalez scored in the third.
- The Warriors continued to lead 5-2 in the fourth when Payton West scored her first run of the day off Madison Flexser's sacrifice fly to right field.
- Right when the Warriors had this game under them, Gateb of CSUSB homered to run in three, tying up the game 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth.
- The team didn't let this set back get to them as right when the fifth started, Aliyah Garvin scored a run.
- A homerun by West took the score to 9-5 as she homered to right in the top of the fifth and ran in Lay and Lovell!
- The Warriors reached 10 runs when Flexser scored in the top of the sixth.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 49-48 against the Coyotes since they first met in March 1999.
- The last time the two teams met, the Warriors split 2-2 in a four-game series in March 2019. The last game ended in a loss in March 24, 2019 at home when the Warriors fell by one, 3-4.
- The Coyotes are predicted to finish sixth this year from the preseason poll.
