Warriors open series with 10-6 win over Shippensburg

TURLOCK — Stanislaus State belted two home runs and scattered 11 hits to take command of the series opener against Shippensburg as the Warriors extended their early-season winning streak to four games with a 10-6 win.
 
Alexis Paz and Zach Jones both hit dingers and the Warriors improved to 4-0 heading into Saturday's doubleheader.

Warriors of the Game
Alexis Paz went 3-for-3 with a 7th inning homerun. He drove in four runs in the game.
Zach Jones hit a two-run homer in the fifth and ended up with a 3 RBI game.
Grant Bunker also had three hits, including a double.
Dylon Jackson went 2-for-4 with a double.
 
On the Mound
Rylan Tinsley improved to 2-0 with seven strong innings of work. After a rough first inning, Tinsley settled down and retired eight straight.
• Tinsley's final line was seven innings pitched and allowed two runs on nine hits. He struck out one.
Damian Vallejos threw 1 2/3 innings and Tommy Stropky got the final out in the ninth.

The Big Inning
• With a 4-2 lead, the Warriors scored four runs in the fifth inning to make it 8-2.
• The Warriors only had two hits in the inning but a hit-batter, wild pitch and two walks contributed to the rally.
Zach Jones highlighted the inning with a two run homer to right-center.
Alexis Paz capped off the rally with a RBI single down the left-field line to score Grant Victor. Jayce Gardner also scored on a throwing error from the left-fielder.
 
Of Note
• This was the first time the Warriors faced Shippensburg. It was also Stan State's first win against a team from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference since 1979. The Warriors beat Mansfield, 8-6, in the 1979 Division III Championship semifinal game.
• Stan State start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2011 when that team began the year 7-0.
 
On Deck
These two teams will complete the three-game set with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of game one is at 1 p.m. Kyle Loretelli, who will be inducted into the Warrior Athletics Hall of Fame, will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
