SAN FRANCISCO –The Warriors took on the Gators of San Francisco State for their CCAA opening doubleheader on Friday and lost in game one, 3-4. Unfortunately, game two was halted until Saturday, February 8. The game started out slow but the Warriors soon gained the lead until the Gators took the game in extra innings.
The Warriors fall to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA. The Gators are now 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
LEADERS OF THE CCAA OPENER
- Overall, Aliyah Garvin had an amazing day. She went 1-for-4, scoring one and hitting a triple out to right field in the top of the sixth.
- Joerdan Lovell earned an RBI and went 2-for-3.
- Even though Kyndra Marzorini got the loss for the day, she pitched three innings and struck out five. She also scored one run in the fourth.
- Morgan Leonard earned two RBI, going 1-for-1 after she doubled to left field in the fourth.
- Desiree Gonzalez also hit a double.
- Payton West stole her first base as a Warrior.
- Cherise Mori played in her second game and scored her first run!
TEAM PERFORMANCE
- It was a slow start to game one of the doubleheader until the fourth inning when the Warriors scored two!
- Morgan Leonard doubled to left field allowing Cherise Mori and Kyndra Marzorini to both run one in to bring the Warriors ahead.
- The last run was scored by Aliyah Garvin in the top of the sixth.
- Unfortunately, extra innings go the best of the Warriors in game one as the Gator scored in the bottom of the ninth to take the game.
- Both teams were fighting to win this game and it looked as if the Warriors had got the win until the Gators tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warriors are 53-51 against the Gators since they first played in February 1999.
- The last time the two teams met, the Warriors lost 1-2 on April 7, 2019.
